Ms. Erin Barnard
Erin Barnard has always had a passion for teaching and was instantly intrigued by the Montessori approach after her first observation. Watching the children work purposefully with minimal interruption from the teacher, she observed the children were free to explore and learn on their own terms, resulting in a genuine interest in what they were learning. The “love of learning” she observed in the Montessori children, was both refreshing and inspiring.
After graduating from York University Erin attended Toronto Montessori Teacher Training Institute obtaining both her Casa and Lower elementary Diplomas. Erin worked as a Montessori Directress in schools in both Newmarket and Barrie, but her dream was to open her own school where she could build a community of parents, children and staff. Erin opened Innisfil Montessori Academy in September 2009. The school started off with two classes housing 24 students. After two expansions the school now contains 7 classrooms and is licensed for 95 children. Building the school was her way of ensuring her own two sons, Carter and Cameron had the best start to the educational journey.
Family is strong pillar in Erin’s life. Erin lives in Minesing with her fiancé Steve, and their four boys. Spending time together is important and her family can often be found at the hockey rinks in the winter and the baseball diamonds in the summer! They also enjoy travelling together, experiencing different culture and seeing all the beauty this world has to offer!
In her spare time Erin practices yoga, is an avid reader and enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible!
